Seamstress Sam Volpe

Model Sam
Sam Volpe has a great eye for fashion, designing, and creating her own clothing from just rolls of fabric. Sam learned the art of fashion design from her mother, who had been sewing most of her life and had her own curtain company.
Sewing became a part of Sam’s life after her mom was diagnosed with Leukemia. Her mother could no longer complete the projects, so Sam began helping her finish them.
Eight years later, Volpe’s mother gained remission from the cancer, but Sam had already discovered her passion. She was soon creating dresses and shirts for herself and loving it!
Sam told SM, “I love being able to create something out of nothing. Making a one of a kind garment is such a fun way to channel creativity and style.”
Although she enjoys her work, there are things that give her a challenge. “Tailoring is what I enjoy least about sewing. It’s so hard to get something to fit just perfectly, especially when I’m using the draping technique. Thankfully, I seem to be happier with the finished product each time.”
Everyone needs a few things in their life that help through every journey that comes their way. After asking Sam for the top 10 things she couldn’t live without, she replied with, “good music in the car with the windows down, Harry Potter, summertime, naps on my hammock, long-boarding, traveling, good reads, outdoor concerts, love, and my faith, which goes right along with my family and friends.
Even though Sam has already experienced success, she has big plans for herself in the future. She plans on attending Indiana University, Purdue University or Ball State University. Once her college choice is made, she intends to get a masters degree in marketing, communications or a double major in advertising and communications. “During my third or fourth year, I plan on finding an internship that is in my field of study so that I can gain some hands-on experience and meet the people of the business. After graduation, I hope to travel all over the world before I start my first job to lead into my career. As long as I love where I am, what I’m doing, and who I’m with, I will be loving life!”
SM asked Miss Volpe if she had any advice for others about sewing. She said that you don’t have to be the best at anything or crazy about an activity to succeed. All you have to do is be kind to everyone, spread joy, do your best, and happiness will come to you. Her strongest recommendation is to read the book Oh! The Places You’ll Go! by Doctor Seuss.
